Cook County Recorder of Deeds Edward M. Moody would like to extend his sympathies to the individuals and families affected by the COVID-19 global pandemic. Recorder Moody is continuing to review and assess new information we are receiving about COVID-19 on a daily basis. While this health crisis has resulted in the temporary closure of the Recorder of Deeds Office, Recorder Moody is working tirelessly to ensure that there is a continuity of services provided to our customers while safeguarding the health and well being of our customers, employees and other residents of Cook County. As a result of Recorder Moody’s leadership, we can now process documents submitted through our e-recording platform remotely for the first time in history. In addition, Recorder Moody will be implementing remote indexing of recorded documents by early next week. These unprecedented steps will allow the real estate market to continue to function during these difficult times: allowing for the purchase and sale of homes, refinancing of mortgages and protecting against fraud in the real estate market.

On March 20, 2020, Recorder Moody announced the closure of the Recorder of Deeds office through Friday, April 3, 2020. Since that time, our city, county, state and federal public health officials have kept us updated on new developments regarding COVID-19. The fact is that this virus is continuing to spread throughout Cook County with an increasing number of new cases and fatalities being reported every day. We must continue the measures taken by Recorder Moody to prevent the spread of this virus. These measures will protect the health and well-being of those who work in and interact with our Office. Accordingly, the Office of the Cook County Recorder of Deeds will remain closed through April 30, 2020.
