Customers of the Cook County Recorder of Deeds’ four satellite offices (located in the courthouses of Markham, Bridgeview, Skokie and Rolling Meadows) will soon have an additional service – the ability to purchase certified copies of recorded documents back to 1985. Additionally, veterans who safeguard their DD-214 discharge records at a CCRD Satellite Office will be able to obtain a free certified copy of that record at all satellite locations.
Starting Tuesday, February 17, customers will be able to obtain certified copies of any previously recorded document. A previously recorded document is any document that has been imaged, checked for quality, and indexed into the Recorder’s online database. Because the act of certification affirms that a document is a true copy of what appears in the public land records database, the document must first be processed, meaning that certified copies cannot be issued at the time of recordation.
In addition to certified copies, CCRD’s Satellite Offices will be able to register veterans for Cook County’s new Military and Veterans Discount Program beginning February 17. For those veterans unable to make it to CCRD’s Downtown Veterans Welcoming Center, Satellite Office staff will be able to verify eligibility and take the veterans photo for their free card. Those who utilize this service will receive their card, along with a directory of participating merchants, in the mail within 7-10 business days.
Those who wish to obtain the Military and Veterans Discount Card should bring a government-issued photo ID along with their proof of service, which can be either a DD-214, VA Benefits Card, or an active-duty or Guard/Reserve ID.
